The overall purpose of this project is to develop an unobtrusive device that measures the force of an impact or series of impacts on the head. The device uses accelerometers programmed to read and calculate the force of the impact to help warn athletic coaches and trainers of the danger of head trauma to an athlete. The goal here is to minimize the risk of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and Second Impact Syndrome (SIS) for athletes. A transmitter and receiver are attached to the main board to send signals of the impact to a computer system on the athletic sideline. Additionally, an audible signal will notify the athlete and teammates that a dangerous impact or series of impacts was delivered. |
