The effects of mono-axial contraction of polyolefines on structure

Popis: The settling (shortening) of cylindrical samples of bulk PE and PP at various deformation rates is examined. The creation of anisotropies of the mechanical properties has been discovered when the samples are cut in tangential or radial directions from the settled disk. A scheme is proposed which explains the considerable strength increase in tangential direction. X-ray and electron studies showed the settled (contracted) samples to be macroscopic models of a PE spherulite with a planar texture.
