Popis: Lymphedema is a debilitating manifestation of lymphatic filariasis. Initially it was believed as an incurable disease. Once the parasite (transmitted by the mosquitoes) and its symbiotic bacterium were all identified, a lot of research was put in and now we are in a position to treat this lymphedema due to lymphatic filariasis in stages 1 and 2 to almost a normal limb. Lot of nonsurgical and surgical management for morbidity control is in practice. We have contributed our own surgical technique for these unfortunate patients to live a normal life. We have traced the evolution of this disease and the latest investigations like MR Lymphangiogram and Lymphoscintigram along with ICT has contributed in understanding the pathophysiology of this complicated disease. These investigations are useful in making a classification and to give a definite management protocol according to the stage of the disease.
