Many stakeholders, including educators, researchers, university administrators, and others might be interested in implementing learning analytics solutions, but they have only limited experience with it, lack the technical expertise or funding, or simply don’t know where to begin. This cookbook brings learning analytics a step closer to educators, smaller organizations, and educational institutions by presenting approaches that do not require complex or expensive infrastructures. The first chapter gives a brief overview of what the Cookbook and learning analytics recipes are all about. In addition, the chapter gives introduction to the learning analytics Toolbox concept. The concept is an initiative to organize all learning analytics materials and guidelines (e.g., objectives, methods, tools, datasets, and recipes) in a compact and structured way to appeal to a variety of audiences interested in learning analytics. This, hopefully, further motivates the learning analytics community to develop one centralized web portal for learning analytics. |
