Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the search of an appropriate transfer of technology to a developing region within an industrialized country. Technology to be transferred must be appropriate to the local conditions and to the objectives of socioeconomic growth of the region, where usually local capital is scarce, man-power is over-abundant and poorly trained, entrepreneurs are few and not active, infrastructures and external economies are missing. There are two important factors that strongly differentiate the situation of Mezzogiomo from underdeveloped countries. The first is the cost of man-power, which is in the Mezzogiomo almost at the same level of all other industrialized countries and is much higher than in underdeveloped countries. The second factor is the quality of manpower, in the Mezzogiomo, unemployed people are mostly young people with a good level of education. |
