METHODS: Preoperative thyroid ultrasounds of 98 patients operated forGDbetween2009 and 2011were included. After size normalization, the shape of thyroid lobes was studied by Fourier approach, characterizing an outline by a series of harmonics (1 to n), each defined by amplitude (Cn), and phase (Fn). Two groups of patients were defined, using principal component analysis of Fourier coefficients: (1) BAL group, showing ball-shaped lobes, (2) TRI group, showing triangular-shaped lobes. These groupswere compared for demographical variables, and the incidence of complications. |
