Popis: The urban environment provides special opportunities for pests and for pest control and specifically biological control. Agricultural pests can be found on backyard ornamental and fruit trees—for example, cottony cushion scale, Icerya purchasi Maskell, infests Citrus spp., Pittosporum spp., and Acacia spp. Biological control that succeeds on ornamentals is often an offshoot of biological control successes in nearby agriculture. Biological control is gaining credibility as a highly useful tool in integrated control programs directed against certain pests in commercial glasshouses. Urban pest management also involves psychology. Cockroaches are among the most important pests in urban environments. Most of the cockroaches are household and the structural pests in temperate regions are tropical or subtropical in origin. They seem to be ideal candidates for the classical biological control. The European earwig is a nuisance in close proximity to homes and gardens. It feeds on fruits, vegetables, and flowering plants and may enter houses. The blue gum psyllid, native to Australia, feeds on several species of Eucalyptus and in particular those with waxy blue foliage such as E. cinerea, E. glaucescens, E. viminalis, E. pulverulenta, and E. globulus .
