Meaningful Methods for Instructing Individuals Who Are Visually Impaired About Birth Control Options

| Popis: | The need to explicitly educate learners who are visually impaired (i.e., those who are blind or have low vision) about their bodies with regard to matters of sexual health was established in the literature more than 50 years ago but continues to be a challenge today. One of the many aspects of sexual health education that requires meaningful methods and materials for people with visual impairments is the various options for birth control. The topic of birth control options has not been explored in depth in previous literature in terms of methods of adapting sexual health content for learners who are blind or have low vision. This practice report describes methods and materials that can be used to instruct individuals who are visually impaired about birth control options. The methods and materials outlined in this article include using real objects or tangible models of the objects to provide meaningful instruction to people with visual impairments. |
