Popis: Amblyopia is one of the four major obstacles 1 in the treatment of squint. It may be found independent of squint, but when it is associated with squint one does not know whether it is the cause or the result of the strabismus. Wolff 2 has stated that in amblyopia of the toxic type the poison may act on either the nerves or the muscles, affecting the action of the retina, the optic nerve, the ciliary muscle (accommodation) or the sphincter pupillae. In a case of toxic amblyopia, by a careful examination, the purpose of which is to find the exciting cause of the condition, and by continuous observation of the pathologic area involved, one can arrive at a fairly definite conclusion with respect to the ultimate prognosis.
