The effect of powdered silica gel on the ageing of polyorganosiloxane rubber

Popis: A study is made of the effect of powdered silica gel (U-333) on the kinetics of the thermal and thermooxidative degradation of polyorganosiloxanes. It is shown that the silica gel filler not only inactivates OH groups of the siloxanes and inhibits chain processes of oxidation of the substituents, but is also capable of initiating heterocyclic scission of SiOSi bonds of the rubners. The role of the active centres on the silica gel surface is considered.
