Popis: | This chapter discusses the occurrence of natural and technologically enhanced natural radioactive materials in the oil-rich regions of Nigeria. It starts with a background of oil production, trends of oil spills in Nigeria and a general description of naturally occurring radioactive element of specific atomic mass, and how technologically enhanced radionuclide are formed during oil production. The text then explains the common types of radiation, and materials from which these radioactive elements could be obtained during fractional distillation of crude oil. Finally, there is a full discussion on the occurrence of natural and artificial radionuclide associated with the crude oil extraction in the oil-producing region of Nigeria and health effects of radioactivity. |
