The lines of zeros of the grand partition function in the complex fugacity plane are studied for a one-dimensional gas consisting of hard rods with nearest-neighbour interaction. The potential consists of a hard core plus a square well or barrier. In the case of the barrier (repulsive forces) all zeros lie on a part of the negative real axis; when there is an attractive square well, all zeros again lie on a part of the negative real axis as long as the temperature exceeds a certain temperature T 0 , which depends on the parameters of the well only. Below this temperature the line of zeros moves out into the complex plane. The temperature T 0 approaches zero when the width of the square well goes to zero, but the indicated behaviour remains valid in this limit. The density of zeros is, in all situations, a monotonically increasing function along the lines of zeros and becomes infinite in the endpoints. |
