Popis: To the Editor.— Herzog and associates (238:623, 1977) recently described benign gastric lesions that mimic carcinoma. Granular cell myoblastoma should be added to the list of lesions. Although it is rare, this entity can occur as a large, irregular, ulcerating gastric mass and can lack any clinical, roentgenographic, or even gross characteristics that would allow diagnosis (Fig 1 and 2). For these reasons, and because it occurs rarely, a surgeon could be influenced by the ominous nature of the term "myoblastoma" to perform unnecessarily radical maneuvers if the diagnosis is rendered by frozen section during laparotomy. Since all reported granular cell myoblastomas of the stomach have been benign,1-3limited resection is the preferred therapy for these lesions. We have managed two such lesions in that manner with no evidence of recurrence.
