Popis: | Concrete is today considered to be a crucial material in the ongoing complex transformation of our society in a sustainable direction. One prioritized requirement in this transformation is to reduce the emissions of CO2 that are associated with concrete production and use. One well-known factor which, so far, has not been considered is (re)carbonation of built concrete products over their life cycle. This paper presents research to quantify such uptake in reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It also presents the current status of considering carbonation in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and in International Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). The paper also presents some possibilities for further research on how to improve climate performance by considering carbonation. |
