Total area under organic fruit production has been increasing and today it represents the most important aspect of organic farming. Organic fruit production implies a strictly controlled system of certified production, which completely or mostly excludes the inputs used in conventional farming, such as fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, etc. This paper attempts to present the economic viability of organic fruit production, which is for the majority of producers a key factor in the selection of the most adequate method of food production. The aim of this paper is to determine whether organic fruit production is economically viable for producers and also to check whether it is cost-effective when compared to conventional agricultural production. The emphasis in the paper is placed on the calculation of total cost price, profitability, as well as specific revenues and expenditures in organic fruit production.
