Popis: Green solvents are a class of compounds that are being developed as alternative solvents in processes to replace the other of petrochemical origin. Green solvents can be applied for remediation technologies that include air, water, and soil decontamination. For a solvent to be classified as green, many aspects need to be assessed, from its safety in use and toxicity to the costs associated with its production and recovery. Green chemistry concepts mention that a substance less toxic and harmful than that currently used in a particular process can be labeled as green. In this chapter, some examples of green solvents are considered such as water, supercritical fluids, liquid polymers, ionic liquids, switchable solvents, gas-expanded liquids, and deep eutectic solvents. Recent applications of green solvents in remediation technologies are depicted, as well as an overview of other processes where green solvents are usually employed.
