New types of long-wave oscillatory Marangonni instabilities in multilayer systems

Popis: The onset of Marangoni-Benard convection for a three-layer system is considcred in the long-wave limit. Different kinds of instabilities produced by deformations of the interfaces are analysed. A new mechanism of oscillatory instability essentially connected with the interaction of both interfaces is found. Peculiarities of this type of oscillation are the finite value of the critical Marangoni number in the long-wave limit and the quadratic dependence of the frequency on the wave number.
