Popis: Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is significantly associated with gaseous pollutants. There is early evidence that susceptibility to air pollution interacts with traditional stroke cardiovascular risk factors, but data on AF is limited. We investigated the effect of AF on the association of AIS episodes with short-term exposure of air pollutants. Methods: In this nationwide, population-based case-only study, and all daily cases of AIS in Singapore from 2009 and 2018 were collected. We compared the outcome AF across different levels of air pollutants (PM 2.5 , PM 10 , O 3 , NO 2 , SO 2 and CO) in cases of AIS. Multivariable regression analysis adjusted for time varying meteorological effects. Prespecified subgroup analysis based on age ( Results: A total of 51,673 episodes of AIS were identified, and 10,722 (20.7%) had AF (Table 1). The risk of AIS was higher for patients with AF for every unit increase in CO (adjusted OR 1.193; 95% CI 1.050-1.356; p=0.007) and O 3 concentration (adjusted OR 1.005; 95% CI 1.003-1.007; p2 (aOR 0.993; 95% CI 0.990-0.997; p2.5 , PM 10 and NO 2 (Table 2). The risk of AIS associated with O 3 and CO concentration remained elevated in patients with AF for up to 5 days from exposure; O3 (OR 1.004; 95% CI 1.002-1.006; p Conclusion: AF increased the risk of AIS driven by air pollutants O 3 and CO but reduced the risk of AIS associated with SO 2 .
