Popis: The supply of carbon to oil in the developing oilseed embryo implicates compartmentation of metabolism at the whole organ, tissue, cellular and subcellular levels. We have begun to address this by studying the metabolism of sucrose in whole seeds of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.). Sugars are carbon sources for growth of the embryo within the seed and also signal molecules that control the expression of genes. Understanding the sugar environment of the developing embryo is therefore of dual importance.
