Popis: | The shale fracturing program has been concerned with the development of a technique for the safe and economic disposal of large batches of radioactive waste by mixing the waste with cement and injecting the mix into beds of shale at depths of about 1000 ft. A facility was built at ORNL to make a series of seven experimental injections. Large volumes of waste solution (up to 150 000 gallons per injection) were successfully injected. Precise control of the proportion of cement and waste solution remains a difficult problem. The facility is now scheduled for modification for regular disposal of Laboratory waste. |
