Popis: | Many different compounds of thyroxine may be prepared which may have different effects on the basal metabolism. It would be impossible in the time allowed for this paper to discuss in detail even the observations that we have made on the effects of a few compounds. For the purpose of simplicity we shall confine our attention largely to a comparison of the effects of administering thyroxine intravenously in alkaline solution with those of administering thyroxine in various forms by mouth. A Comparison of the Effects of Prolonged Oral Administration of Pure Thyroxine, Monosodium Thyroxine and Desiccated Thyroid with the Effects of Administering Thyroxine Intravenously. In one patient with myxedema we have observed a definite response to the prolonged oral administration of large doses of pure thyroxine suspended in distilled water. The thyroxine was given in daily doses of from 7.5 to 50 in gin. over a period of eight months. Final figures are not yet available, but it would seem that the basal metabolism, ... |
