Urban diffusion in the southeast region of Brazil is an ongoing phenomenon whose origins date back to the early 1980s. This work analyzes the ongoing process of urban diffusion in the urban agglomerate led by the medium-sized cities of Para de Minas and Itauna, which are located in the central-western region of the state of Minas Gerais (Brazil) and which, bordering on the metropolitan region of the state capital, results in experiencing the reflexes of the regional processes of metropolitan decentralization that occur there. Thus, urban diffusion in the Para de Minas and Itauna Urban Agglomerations transforms peri-urban spaces in such a way that they end up sustaining the growth and implementation of new settlements characterized by being less and less linked to pre-existing activities and transforming the land use and the forms of production and reproduction of space and economic and social relations. Characterizing this process, its dimensions and the possible scenarios, the work proposes to indicate possible, multiscale and participatory paths, involving all the cities that integrate the urban agglomeration, so that the urban and regional development can be accomplished in a harmonized way, reducing the socio-spatial segregation that characterizes the cities and the Brazilian territory in general, reducing the risk of the creation of exclusive enclaves, as well as enclaves in the region. |
