Performance of dual wound Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SyncRel) used in high performance applications has been evaluated under winding fault conditions. High performance application has stringent torque and torque ripple requirements in both healthy and faulty operation of the machine to avoid catastrophic events and improve the overall system performance. A comparable Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) machine has been designed to compare the performance of SyncRel under both healthy and faulty conditions. 2D finite element (FEA) models have been developed to design both IPM and synchronous reluctance machines. Three-phase open and short circuit winding faults have been considered to analyse the machine performances. The proposed 2D model of SyncRel machine is also validated with experimental data. |
