Grandmothers are figures who represent support and part of the care of many families around the world. Therefore, they play an influential role in important decisions, including in the breastfeeding process of their grandchildren, both through ideas and beliefs passed on to the lactating women and through practical help. Such influence can be a great ally and motivator of breastfeeding, but it can also be the opposite, depending on the opinions and beliefs of each family, and the level of understanding that each one has about the act of breastfeeding. This paper proposes to scrutinize in more detail how this relationship between grandparents and breastfeeding mothers works, and how it could be more fruitful in order to protect breastfeeding. |
