We present an approach to automotive development that treats the automobile as a single system, interacting with its operating environment, data and signal sources, the occupants, energy sources, and service centers. The requirements and architecture of the vehicle are developed separately, but concurrently, interactively, and with their interrelationships clearly identified within a common framework. Every aspect of the system is developed within this same framework, including such things as maintenance procedures. The highest system levels include no assumptions about the vehicle technology, allowing, for example, gasoline, electric, solar, or any other energy source, and manual or mechanized subsystems. |
