Popis: Antifertility effects of chlorine-substituted dioxolanes dithiolanes and dithianes were investigated in male rats. The synthesis and biological activity of 2 acetals of 1-chloro-23-propanediol and 2 thioacetals of 1-chloro- and 2-chlorodimercaplopropane are described. The compounds were administered to adult male rats either orally or sc for 14 days. On the last day each male was cohabited with a proestrous female. Vaginal washings were checked for evidence of positive mating. MAels were autopsied for examination of sex organs and females (after 14 days) for examination of implantation sites. The results substantiate the previously reported male antifertility activity of compound 1 and 2-substituted-4-(chloromethyl)-13-dioxolanes. Dithiolane 4 and dithiane 5 were devoid of biological activity at doses comparable to their oxygen analogs.
