Popis:	In January 1987 a thermophilic aerobic digestion (TAD) plant was installed at Haltwhistle STW to assess its suitability for sludge treatment at small isolated sewage works. The TAD plant and details of its operation and performance are described in relation to the particular problems associated with sludge treatment at small works. Experience at Haltwhistle has shown that TAD is an effective method of sludge stabilisation and disinfection. Permanent TAD plants are now being installed at two sites in the Northumbrian Water Authority area.
