Effect of irradiation on phase transformations in Cu-Sn and Cu-Sn-Pu alloys

Popis: Tin bronze (Cu-8 at % Sn alloy) with the addition of 1 at % Pu, in the annealed state, experiences a transformation under neutron irradiation. It consists in the dissolution of the precipitated intermetallic phase Cu 3 Sn in the α-solid solution. Even after prolonged exposure to fast neutrons the binary alloy does not show this effect. The explanation of the observed regularities of the transition is based on the concept of thermal spikes in fissile materials.
