Scar resulting from umbilical reconstruction or reimplantation is treated by physical or chemical methods. The authors describe the healing process, abnormal healing such as hypertrophic and keloid scar, and therapeutic options. The treatment of abnormal scarring with triamcinolone and 5-FU is discussed. The authors’ experience with 5 FU solution (5 FU, triamcinolone) has histopathologically demonstrated the effectiveness of collagen fiber synthesis reduction and fiber rearrangement, thus explaining the positive clinical effect |
