Popis: The sensitivity of an immunofluorescent screening technique was compared to conventional culture methods for Salmonella detection in an examination of 3,991 food samples. The sensitivity of the fluorescent antibody (FA) method was denned as the percentage effectiveness of the FA method for detecting true salmonellae-positive samples when compared with the culture method. Data obtained with an improved polyvalent fluorescein-conjugated somatic antiserum showed an average sensitivity greater than 99% in the analysis of 1,259 food samples.
