Popis:	This paper demonstrates the involvement of dissolved organic compounds in the precipitation of gypsum from near-surface seawater. The general solubility and oxidation behavior of these compounds is discussed. Qualitatively different results have been obtained between samples collected from remote areas and those collected from areas of intensive human use.
