Purpose. The article touches upon the peculiarities of poetry translation, the notion of metaphor and the ways of translating metaphor. The analysis of metaphor translation in The little humpbacked horse, a fairy tale by P.P. Ershov, is carried out on the basis of metaphor transformation techniques put forward by Prof. T.A. Kazakova. Methods and methodology used in the paper. The major methods of the paper are the comparative and linguo-stylistic methods in combination with the analysis of dictionary entries. Results. The article summarizes the viewpoints of both Russian and foreign linguists on the issue of metaphor translation, as well as reveals the most common ways of metaphor translation in The little humpbacked horse, a fairy tale by P.P.
