Popis: | Expansion results up to an age of 42 months are reported that were obtained in tests carried out at 20°C to determine the effective alkali release from pulverized fuel ash (PFA) in concretes of normal cement content containing cristobalite as the reactive constituent in the aggregate. It is shown that at an alkali content of about 3 kg/m3 the effectiveness of PFA in reducing the risk of expansion due to alkali-silica reaction depends on: (a) the alkali content of the Portland cement; (b) the proportion of the Portland cement replaced; (c) the total alkali content of the PFA. Examples are cited from the literature of affected field concretes that broadly fit the deductions made from this study. |
