Popis: The Jones and 4 x 4 matrix formalisms are applied to the analysis of the sensitivity of optical detection of shear acoustic pulse propagating in a layered structure. The polarimetry measurements give directly access to the detection of a shear pulse propagating in an isotropic layer. Simulations show that an enhancement of the detection sensitivity occurs around the resonances of the Fabry-Perot optical cavity formed by the individual layer, which the acoustic pulse is crossing and the surrounding media. Therefore, a proper choice of the layer thickness or the incidence angle is necessary in order to optimize the detection sensitivity of a shear acoustic pulse which propagates within a layer.
