Popis:	The probing behavior of M. persicae (Sulzer) on a resistant and a susceptible sugar beet hybrid was studied by means of an electronic recording system and compared with its natural probing behavior on a favored host plant. Significant differences of several compared parameters were revealed which could explain resistance and susceptibility in these beet hybrids. The term “resistance to virus transmission” is proposed for the type of resistance which is due to vector probing behavior, and a “relative resistance index” (RRI) is suggested for its measurement. With this method, the RRI of individual resistant plants was measured, and it was found that further improvement of resistance would be possible in the resistant hybrid by means of further selection.
