Popis: The mechanical behavior of superconducting magnets deviates from isotropy due to their construction techniques, which involve layering superconductor, insulation, and sometimes structural reinforcement within the windings. Previous mechanical analyses considered the windings of a magnet to behave isotropically. This paper describes an analytical solution for the deflection, stress, and strain of axisymmetric electromechanically loaded rotationally transversely isotropic solenoids. The results indicate that for magnets with a large radial build compared to inner radius, transverse isotropy has a dramatic effect upon the mechanical response to load; for magnets with a small radial build compared to inner radius, transverse isotropy has a negligible effect.
