Popis: | Uncontrolled studies have shown that mean serum urate levels are higher in female patients with gout than in gouty male patients (1–5) and that daily uric acid excretion is similar (4) or lower (3, 5) in the former than in the latter. These findings prompted the hypothesis that female patients with primary gout have a more defective tubular transport of uric acid than gouty male patients (3). In this prospective study, carried out under controlled conditions, we examined purine metabolism in female patients with primary gout. In addition, we investigated whether there are sex-related differences in purine metabolism among patients with primary gout. |
