The 4DCo-GC European project aims at explaining and analysing the 4D contract concept as a possible evolution for the management of the air transport system, by means of simulations enabling to guide and control aircraft along those contracts. To this end, the 4D contract concept developed in the frame of the former IFATS project was refined, taking into account the current SESAR outputs and new avionics developments. The aircraft capabilities in terms of performance, flight domain and guidance and control are inputs taken into account in the 4D contract generation phase. The 4D contract execution phase also takes full benefit of these capabilities to ensure the minimization of the need for contract update: in-flight trajectory optimization is based on the possibility to divert from a reference speed or from the initially planned trajectory. Simulation campaigns have been performed to derive a first proof of concept. The final conclusions of the project are expected at the end of 2013, when recommendations are proposed to the SESAR programme and to aircraft manufacturers in order to prepare what could be the far future of the air transport system. |
