Artificial waterbodies can help tackle the ongoing freshwater biodiversity crisis by providing new habitat for aquatic wildlife. Farm dams are among the most abundant artificial waterbodies in agricultural landscapes, yet general guidelines for maximising their ecological potential are yet to emerge.
