Austenitic-ferritic stainless steels, more commonly known as duplex stainless steels, have become increasingly popular among foreign producers, but in Russian Federation development of these steels has begun relatively recently. The purpose of this study was to perform a comparative analysis of the corrosion resistance of UNS S31200 austenitic-ferritic stainless steels and its Russian analogue. The corrosion resistance equivalents PREN and MARC were determined and compared for these two steels. Corrosion resistance of analogue-steel is lower than S31200′s due to the reduced content of chromium and nitrogen. Using metallographic techniques in combination with thermodynamic modeling a large amount of undesired σ-phase was found in analogue-steel. This is due to insufficient high cooling rates or incorrect selection of heat treatment modes. |
