The dynamics of thin and ultrathin wetting films have been studied experimentally by ellipsometry. The results are analysed in reference to the hydrodynamic theory of the Gennes in the case of thin films, i.e., films whose thickness is large compared to molecular sizes. — For ultrathin films, molecular effects become dominant, for which no theory is available yet. We propose a qualitative analysis in terms of the two-dimensional film pressure which accounts satisfactorily for the experimental findings. |
