The detailed comparison between the canonical quantisation of gauge theories formulated on the basis of the extended BRST symmetry principle and the Sp(2)-covariant quantisation is carried out in the case of the first order action principle. This is accomplished by explicitly expressing the solution of the master equation for the Sp(2)-covariant quantisation in terms of the BRST-anti-BRST charges. Complete agreement is found between formulations and this conclusion holds for irreducible as well as reducible theories. |
