Popis: | All men are unique, but some are more unique than others. Such was the son of a city father of Amsterdam, Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft (1581–1647), a poet, dramatist and historian, and one of the classical writers of the Dutch Golden Age. In his own time his contemporaries honoured him — with a somewhat trite word-play — as the “Hoofd der Hollandse Poeten,” and the appreciation has remained fairly constant since then, with a decline in the late eighteenth century. |
