Popis: | The d.c. resistivity has been determined as a function of pressure and electric field for the (1:1) donor-acceptor complexes, (I) bis(tetrahydroindenyl)iron:tetracyanoethylene, (II) cobaltocene:tetracyanoethylene, and (III) p-phenylenediamine:dinitrodurene. For I, II, and III the resistivity increases with increasing pressure in a reversible manner over the pressure range 260–2600 psi. For I and III the resistivity increases with increasing electric field; this behavior is essentially reversible except for the presence of a relaxation process. The phenomena are interpreted in terms of a mechanism involving slight reorientation of the molecular units in the crystal lattice similar to the processes responsible for ferroelectric behavior. The observation of these phenomena is assumed to have significant importance in terms of providing systems for the study of the effects of molecular arrangement in crystals upon the conduction mechanisms. |
