Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) leads to the dysfunctions of the male reproductive system, including an androgen deficiency and impaired spermatogenesis. However, in the conditions of DM1, the activity of the steroidogenesis system in the testes and the relationship between the impaired steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis and the metabolic and hormonal changes remain poorly understood. The aim of the work was to study the steroidogenesis and the spermatogenesis in male mice with the severe (sDM) and moderate (mDM) DM1 induced by subsequent streptozotocin treatment. The plasma levels of fasting glucose and insulin in the sDM and mDM groups of mice were 11.6±1.5 and 8.5±1.0 mM and 0.13±0.04 and 0.21±0.06 ng/mL, and were significantly different from those in control (5.1±0.4 mM and 0.43±0.08 ng/mL, P |
