Popis: | Depression is common in older women. It can present with both physical and behavioral changes. Clinicians should evaluate older women for medical causes of depression and should screen for cognitive impairment. Nonpharmacologic treatment options include psychotherapy, exercise and light therapy and community support. This chapter delineates the antidepressants that are safest in older women. Clinicians are encouraged to start with low doses of antidepressants and to increase the dose slowly until a therapeutic effect is seen. The chapter also reviews differences between normal and complicated grief and presents treatment options. |
