Popis: | Oral cancer in childhood is extremely rare. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from a cyst that occurred in a child.A 13-year-old boy was referred to the Department of Oral Surgery, Ohu University School of Dentistry because of slight pain and swelling in the left upper jaw. Radiologically, the lesion showed a well-defined, pear-shaped radiolucent area between the roots of the lateral incisor and cuspid, producing divergence of the roots of these teeth. A tentative clinical diagnosis of maxillary cyst was made, and the lesion was enucleated. Histopathological examination of the cyst wall revealed atypical growth of the lining epithelium, and squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed. After chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the patient underwent partial maxillectomy. There has been no evidence of recurrence as of about 10 years after surgery. |
