Popis: Patient safety in emergency medicine is not possible without professional communication. For a long time this was not a focal point of training measures in this sector. Concomitant with patient safety research and analysis of critical incidents it was shown that deficits in communication are crucial aspects in this field.Due to the inherent high complexity and manifold interfaces with other medical specialities with diverse and variable professional backgrounds and time pressure, emergency medicine is classified as a high risk environment. In respect to scientific theories and models in human communication, approaches for enhancing communicative processes are described which turn the risk factor of communication into a quality resource for patient safety in emergency medicine.
