Popis: | It was investigated the role of estrogen deficiency, type 2 diabetes and their combination in oxidation-reduction homeostasis of the heart mitochondria in experimental rats. It was established that estrogen deficiency and type 2 diabetes leads to oxidative stress in the mitochondria of cardiomyocytes increasing the reactive oxygen species production and reducing the activity of antioxidant enzymes — superoxide dismutase and glutathione, wherein the diabetic condition inhibits the mitochondrial antioxidant system of the heart more than estrogen deficiency. The combination of type 2 diabetes with estrogen deficiency causes additive stimulatory effect on reactive oxygen species production, however, does not increase the negative effects of diabetes on the antioxidant defense system in the heart mitochondria. |
