Popis: An investigation of the /sup 12/C(p, gamma )/sup 13/N and /sup 13/C(p, gamma )/sup 1 4/N reactions has been made to determine their applicability for assaying materials for their /sup 13/C enrichment. The system was calibrated by measuring the ratio of the yield from the /sup 12/C(p, gamma )/sup 13/N reaction to the yield from the /sup 13/C(p, gamma )/sup 14/N reaction as a function of the /sup 13/C enrichment for petasaium acetate targets having known /sup 13/C enrichments. Using the experimentally determined calibration curve, many different materials have been assayed. Measurements were made using both a high resolution Ge(Li) detector and a NaI detector. Several proton beam energies were used to determine the optimum energy for assay measurements. The radiative eapture technique for determining /sup 13/C enrichment is compared with the more classical techniques for the analysis of /sup 13/C tracer experiments.
